PHUKET INFORMATION
BLACK ROCK MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO BURMA (MYANMAR)
The island is only about 80 metres in width above the surface, and lays by itself in the Andaman sea.
This exciting wall and boulder dive is the perfect setting for a Burma scuba diving shark encounter and hopefully you'll see passing ocean going sharks with white, silver and black tips in sufficient numbers to keep your heart in your mouth and your eyes peeled.
Other big fish encounters include manta and eagle rays flying all around you in deep water and sighting of marble stingrays are not uncommon and mobula rays are here in abundance, making his a must dive for all shark and big fish lovers.
These big fish are here because of the ever moving currents in the deeper waters and these currents can cause an unsuspecting diver problems if they move away from the sheltering wall, with down drafts being the main concern and care must be taken.
On the sheltered walls of the south side you will find abundant soft corals, sea fan and anemones in amazing variety and the possibility of more shark sighting with bull and reef sharks to be found.
All in all Black Rock is an exceptional dive site with masses of sea life to be seen, from corals to big fish.
Depth: 5/40m
Visibility: 15/50m
Currents: Can be strong with down drafts
Level: 2/3 Advanced experienced divers.
