LIVEABOARD DIVING MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO BURMA (MYANMAR)

Mergui Archipelago

The Mergui archipelago, in the Andaman sea, consisting of 800 islands, islets and barren rock formations, was opened by the Burmese (Myanmar) authorities in 1997 after long talks and negotiations with dive companies from Phuket, Thailand.

Sea Gypsies

The archipelago, also known as the Myeik Archipelago or Myeik Kyunzu, is populated by Moken Sea Gypsies (the name Moken covers several peoples around the region.) As sea-dwelling people, they can be found living on their traditional covered long-tail boats during the dry season and generally living on the islands during in the monsoon.

Burma's Moken villagers can be visited during your liveaboard dive trip to Mergui, for a glimpse into a passing traditional lifestyle that is centuries old and now sadly dying out.

Liveaboard Cruising

Since the opening up of the Mergui archipelago to divers, the diversity of sea life in the area can be seen, as new scuba diving sites are found by the dive tour operators, who, with so much to area to explore, are regularly finding and naming new dive site for you to dive and enjoy. The vast amount of these diving sites are in such remote places that they can only be reached by liveaboard dive boats and we offer you the opportunity to dive here with our Burma liveaboard diving operator partners Sai Mai and Giamani. For more information on either liveaboard boat just click on their links.

Divers Paradise

With the vast array of dive sites available to the diver, we are sure that whatever kind of diving you like, you will find it at the Mergui archipelago.

If your passion is photographic, you will find all the best macro and micro photo ops that your heart can desire; from the smallest ghost pipe fish to the largest whale shark & manta ray and everything you've ever heard of in between.

For the diver that just wants to find new and exciting challenges the Mergui archipelago is for you too, because it's all here ready and waiting in the form of caverns, caves, tunnels, weird rock formations and big sharks; white tip silver tip and bull (Zambezi) are common here and will take your breath away.

As one diver said, “ Do what yer gotta do to get there, do it now, you won't be disappointed.”
