EATING OUT
There are literally hundreds of restaurants on Phuket island, from the ramshackle Thai pavement noodle house, serving basic soups and stir fry dishes to the super duper air condition Thai fusion and Royal Thai restaurants offering dishes in a degree of comfort and style that would shame many top class establishments around the world.
Thai food is normally very hot and spicy, but in Phuket as in most Thailand tourist destinations restaurants tend to lessen the heat for Westerners (known as Farangs or Falangs)
Fresh local ingredients are the order of the day and curry Thai style (red or green) is a favourite along with many different noodle dishes and of course the Phuket speciality, seafood. Whatever your palette there is a place for you.
ON THE HOOF
Street vendors offering spicy treats such as kebabs or the sweet *Roti for dessert are clean, hygienic and an amazingly good value.
* Roti is a filo like pastry filled with sweet fruits mixed with beaten egg then fried in the manner of a pancake, to give a crispy outer and soft creamy centre, it is then topped with condensed milk and/or chocolate sauce (optional). Most delicious!
